#3 on my bucket list - COMPLETED!!!!

We have completed #3 on our 2011 "bucket list". We attended and competed in the 2011 Almost Annual Crappie Derby! For those of your that don't know...a Crappie is a type of fish - so we went ICE FISHING!! This is the first time any of us have ever ice fished! It was a nice day - wasn't too cold and wasn't snowing too hard. I have to admit, we were slightly unprepared! Because we have never ice fished before we didn't know what supplies we would need etc. Now we know... we arrive at Whitney Point lake to find it FULL of people. They said they had over 2000 registered fisherman.
We came with only a backpack full of extra outdoor attire (hats, mittens, a blanket, diapers, wet wipes etc). Most everyone else came with snowmobiles, coolers, huts etc. Now we know....

The Derby supplied the kids with poles to fish with and also some bait. Because we didn't have a clue as to what to do or even how to work the ice fishing poles they were nice enough to help us and give us some pointers. Grandma and Grandpa even came to visit and check things out. Brooklinn had a great time walking around and looking at the people and especially the dogs - she LOVES dogs! She eventually wore herself out and settled on my lap for a nap.

We spent a total of 5 hours on that ice and never caught a fish. But the kids had fun, Jason had fun and I admit that I did too! We will be trying this again :)
